Description: This 5.35 acre property is located on Hayes Mill Rd. The property is just outside Boydton in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. A large, beautiful, mostly wooded lot perfect for building on or keeping as an investment, this area is perfect for enjoying all the wildlife along the border of Virginia and North Carolina. You will be able to conveniently fish Buggs Island Lake and enjoy the ecosystem of the marsh, savor the fruits grown in Virginia vineyards through a glass of complex wine or simply enjoy the laid-back scene and history of downtown Boydton.

There are several entry points for Buggs Island Lake; the closest to this property is about 16 minutes away. Buggs Island Lake is about 48,900 acres at full pool and has one of the best largemouth bass fisheries in the country. Surveys on largemouth bass indicate high rates of reproduction and growth. Largemouth bass in the 2-4 pound range are typical; however, trophy bass greater than eight pounds are rare. The best fishing is on the upper end of the lake and the lower end creek arms. Structure is important, and water levels affect how much structure is available. When water levels rise into the willow and sweet gum trees in spring, anglers should be sure to fish the backs of coves and the points. Channel catfish have traditionally been the most sought after catfish at Buggs Island; however, flathead and blue catfish have become popular as well.

Virginia is increasingly well known for producing wine. A half an hour away, the 450 acre Rosemont Estate has been producing wine since 2007. The estate has been in the Rose Family since 1858. In 2003, we continued the journey as stewards of the land, planting over 32,000 grape vines across 22 acres. Construction of the Winery began in November of 2006, with a beautiful early American style building that houses a state of the art gravity-flow wine production facility underground and in 2007 we produced our first in-house vintage. They combine their knowledge of this land with modern winemaking techniques to produce premium handcrafted wines, all of which are 100% estate grown, produced and bottled on this estate. Being involved in every aspect of winemaking, from bud break to harvest and bottling, allows Rosemont to produce wines of the greatest quality that showcase this great Virginia terroir.

Historic Boydton is an 18th century town located six minutes down the road from the property. A completed street enhancement project renders a charming Victorian ambiance to the entire historic district, which includes quaint dining and shopping opportunities and year-round festivals. As the county seat, it boasts a unique hexastyle Greek revival courthouse. Built and designed by Jefferson’s own builder, it is a replica of the State Capitol in Richmond. From its central location on a lush court square, it commands attention, but is quite at home among the quaint, vintage buildings surrounding it. The Boyd Tavern (C 1790), a former stagecoach stopover for the Boydton-Petersburg Plank Road, represents a fine example of work by Jacob Holt.

Located in downtown Boydton, the Tobacco Heritage Trail encourages exploration of historic locations. Surrounded by unspoiled woods, tobacco farms that have been passed from one generation to the next and homey little towns, the Tobacco Heritage Trail is a path to your outdoor recreation and relaxation.  Explore the natural resources of this Southern Virginia rail-trail on horse, bicycle, or foot and journey back to the history and culture of a simpler time. Our trail is your trail; come on in and make yourself at home.
